Twenty (Not Quite) One

Coming into junior year there is only one thing on every student’s mind: turning 21. You don’t think about when your friends are, or how much time you’re going to have at the bars, you only think about the fact that it’s coming, and it’s coming this year.

But when the middle of the second semester rolls around, and the last friend besides yourself turns 21… you’re left alone. No more frats with your friends because they’re at the bars. Should you even go out? Who is there to go with?

The worst part of the semester hits as the baby of the group: you’re the last to turn 21.

Time for the Academics to Shine

It may be a week or it may be a few months, but in that timeframe, it’s time to lock in. You’re alone in your apartment while all your friends are sending pictures from the bar, and there’s nothing better to do than to take the time to really focus on those academics.

To get all your work done by Friday night, freeing yourself up for the entire Saturday and Sunday is the most relieving feeling, instead of having to pile it all up for Sunday afternoon after that hangover finally wears off.

It might sound boring, and definitely not what you want to be doing on a Thursday or Friday night, but that academic validation might just feel better than a frat with people you’re kind of friends with.

Learn How to Cook More than Pasta!

Having no choice but to stay in because you’re still only 20 is the perfect opportunity to learn how to cook more than the bare minimum. It’s finally time to take out the pots and pans, and learn how to make chicken cutlets, fajitas or even a full out hibachi dinner if that’s what you’re craving.

Much Needed Self Care!

The best choice, of all things to do while your friends are out, is a self care night! When the apartment is empty and quiet and its a night to yourself, take that hot everything shower, create the best skincare routine, open a bottle of white wine (or red, if you’re into that) and lay in bed for hours on end watching your favorite shows.

There’s nothing like nights to yourself, fully relaxing after the stress of school and clubs, to finally feel like yourself again.

Being the baby of the group might just be the worst thought ever, but it doesn’t have to be! And let’s be serious– when the last of the group turns 21, it’s always the most fun!
