Have you ever wondered if there’s a way to stop letting other people’s opinions, drama, and judgment impact your life? Millions of people cannot stop raving about this new book, “The Let Them Theory,” by author Mel Robbins. It is based on two simple words: Let them.
Who is Mel Robbins?

Mel Robbins became known after giving a TEDx talk, “How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over,” in 2011, and from there on, she has grown famous for her motivational tactics. Mel is also a best-selling author and entrepreneur. Before her fame, she was a popular on-air commentator and opinion writer for CNN as well as a criminal defense attorney based in New York City.
Her journey started in 2011 when she realized she had hit rock bottom.
“I nearly lost everything I cared about in life. My anxiety was so bad, I could barely drag myself out of bed”
Robbins said. After hitting rock bottom, she realized she wanted a better life and to encourage others that they’re not alone.
The Let Them Theory
The Let Them Theory is an approach to reclaiming your life by knowing the difference between what you can and cannot control. It helps you prioritize what truly matters and to put yourself first.
Your friends hung out without you. Your parents don’t like your major. These crappy situations that make you overwhelmed, but the “Let Them Theory” can help. The idea is what’s done is done: Your friends didn’t want to invite you: Let them. Your parents won’t change their mind: Let them. By saying those two simple words, you are releasing control of what others think, say, do, and feel.
Benefits!

By choosing to implement this theory into your day-to-day lives, it can help reduce stress and anxiety you may be having by letting go of the need to control situations around you. When you stop trying to change others, it can lead you to healthier relationships and a clearer headspace. Who doesn’t want that?
The “Let Them Theory” can only be as powerful as you let it. Learning and practicing how to implement this mindset into your life will take time and can be hard at first. However, if you truly want to improve your well-being, you’ll do it, no excuses.
5-Second Rule

And no, this is not about food falling on the ground. This is what Robbins’ is most famous for. The technique is simple: when you have an impulse to take action on something, you must physically start doing it within 5 seconds of that thought occurring. The reason why is because it takes 5 seconds before self-doubt sets in and changes your mind.
VALLEY loves this rule when deciding to go out with friends the night before an exam. 5 4 3 2 1… we are going to study!
