Ty Dolla $ign will headline a free concert on the HUB Lawn this Saturday, hosted by both Movin’ On and the Student Programming Association. Popular Penn State student DJ Shevy is set to open at the event, which starts at 8 p.m.
This isn’t Ty Dolla $ign’s first performance in Happy Valley. His “In Too Deep Tour” made a stop at Levels Nightclub, a former bar and club, back in 2014.
On top of several popular albums, Dolla $ign is known for his collaborations with artists like Kanye West, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne. He’s featured alongside Nicki Minaj on Jason Derulo’s hit song “Swalla” and with Post Malone on his track “Psycho.”
The “Sucker for Pain” singer is also a songwriter and music producer. He’s lent his lyrical talents to Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney for their song “FourFiveSeconds” and contributed to Beyonce and Jay-Z’s song, “Boss.”
His tracks have been featured in popular movies, such as DC Comic’s “Suicide Squad” and the award-winning animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”.
Ty Dolla $ign is currently on tour with Chris Brown, but Brown isn’t expected to make an appearance at this performance.
Dolla $ign’s opening act for the night, Shevy, is a DJ and producer from eastern Pennsylvania. He’s gained a considerable following on SoundCloud, with a large fan base in and around State College. The 22-year-old Penn State student often performs at bars, clubs and fraternities in the State College area.
Around this time last year, Movin’ On and Penn State Student Affairs hosted a similar concert on the HUB Lawn called Movin’ In. The free concert featured performances from rapper T-Pain and cover band Go Go Gadjet. This event is being held jointly with SPA and hasn’t adopted the same name.
