Our bodies are temples—but do we really treat them that way? Chipotle burrito bowls, West dining hall cookies and sugary soda drinks often crowd our stomachs, not leaving room for much else. It is true that making a dedication to eat healthy is difficult while in college. However, with this Valley Pick of the Week, vastly improving your nutrition goes from being a chore to being as easy as making a quick purchase in McLanahan’s.
Now presenting… Synergy Organic Green Chia by G.T.
Synergy Organic Green Chia is a drink that can be found in the organic refrigerator in McLanahan’s. I picked it up on a whim one day in between classes, and since then I have been hooked. The health benefits in this bottle are unbelievable.
It contains only three ingredients: organic raw kombucha, raw chia seeds, and blue-green algae. Synergy Green Chia is also gluten-free and a good option for vegans.
Originally, the concept of drinking seeds was completely foreign to me. However, once I discovered the numerous benefits of chia, I found myself chugging from the bottle.
What are “chia seeds?”
According to the Synergy Green Chia label, raw chia is synonymous with raw energy. Chia seeds are packed with more than 8 times the omega-3s found in salmon. Crazy rich in nutrients, chia has more antioxidants than blueberries and more fiber than oatmeal. These seeds have been nicknamed “runner’s food” due to the large amount of energy they provide.
At first these facts sounded almost too good to be true, so I did some chia googling of my own. What I found not only backed up the facts on the bottle, but also opened my eyes to an even wider variety of chia benefits. These little seeds really are super foods.
Chia seeds are bursting with protein, which makes drinking Synergy Green Chia a great option for all people—especially for vegetarians.
Chia seeds can have a stabilizing effect of blood sugar. This effect fights insulin resistance that can be tied to an increase in belly fat, according to Live Strong. See more of Live Strong’s research on the subject here http://www.livestrong.com/article/316750-abdominal-fat-insulin-resistance/
Other benefits of chia seeds are stronger teeth and bones, improved hearth health and they satisfy your hunger and keep you fuller for longer.
What is “kombucha?”
The other ingredient I was unsure of was the kombucha in Synergy Organic Green Chia. While I assumed it was healthy for me, the label on the bottle does not delve into kombucha’s nutritional benefits. So I did some more research of my own.
Kombucha is a food supplement prepared from a symbiotic colony of yeast and bacteria that is added to tea for its health benefits. G.T. Dave has bottled some of the best organic kombucha in his Synergy line.
Benefits of the ingredient:
- health-promoting
- low calorie
- low carbohydrate
- preservative and caffeine free
- free of artificial flavors/colors and low in sugar
Synergy Organic Green Chia is unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. The only thing I can somewhat assimilate the taste to is the Green Machine Naked Juice, but even that doesn’t do it justice. The tart taste of Synergy’s kombucha combined with the grapey taste of the green chia creates a tangy experience, unparalleled by any other drink. The texture took me a couple sips to get used to because I had never drunk seeds before.
After finishing my first bottle, I felt a huge rush of energy that got me through my morning. With every mouthful I knew I was treating my body to the nutrients it craved. Synergy Organic Green Chia is a power packed juice that improves your wellbeing (and can cure even the nastiest of hangovers.)
Next time you’re in McLanahan’s, pick one up and experience it for yourself.
Do they sell these in redifer? I’d like to pick one up before my lunch shift.
How much does one of these cost? I’m assuming they’re affordable for college students, but can a typical student afford to buy one everyday? I have a specific beverage budget I must stay within LOL. Anyways, great article!
I heard it was packed with Vitamin D?! Any truth to this?
So is this a liquid seed kind of drink? I feel like that’s more common than you think.
