Walk of Shame? No, Stride of Pride

You wake up one morning and come to a quick panic when you realize you are in fact, not in your usual bed. As you wake up and try to get out hurridly, your mind is slowly dreading what’s to come. You know it, VALLEY knows it, we all know it as the famous walk of shame and it’s happened to the best of us. Thinking clearly, why are we all ashamed of it?

Get Up, And Get Out

This special walk is often recognized after an unplanned sexual encounter. As soon as you wake up and remember what you were up to the night before, your immediate fight or flight kicks in and you flee the scene—scrummaging through the room, gathering all your belongings, rushing down the flight of stairs and out the doors. The sunlight hits your face and the outfit you so thoughtfully put together and known as “super cute” is now super out of place.

You look and feel like a hot mess and as you’re walking down the street, it feels as though everyone is judging. That feeling of ‘they know.’ You feel ashamed of what you have done and the fact that you had to escape made the whole series of events worse, hence the shameful portion of the walk of shame.

You Have a Purse!

While the spontaneity of the walk of shame is part of the glory, there are some things you could do the night before to be a little more prepared. Somehow there is always a way to fit everything in your purse. Whether you’re going out with the girls or riding solo, here are some things VALLEY suggests you pack in your purse:

  1. Perfume sampler bottle
  2. Lip Gloss
  3. Travel-sized comb
  4. Travel-sized toothbrush
  5. Makeup touch-ups

The reality of it all is that no one is all that concerned about your whereabouts, much less the stranger passing you by on College Ave. Can you vividly remember all of the times that you have seen someone on the street and thought hard enough to judge them because they were committing the walk of shame? Maybe you can remember one or two remarkable moments, but that’s it.

No one will have confirmation of what you were up to unless you explicitly give it to them. Besides, what is there to be ashamed of, as long as you had fun and feel confident in your decisions, then be proud and show it off. If push comes to shove, fake it till you make it baby!
