What Your Halloween Costume Says About You

We all love holidays. “But in girl world, Halloween is the one time of year a girl can dress like a total slut, and no other girl can say anything about it,” — Cady Heron, Mean Girls. There is no excuse not to look hot and funny or go out on Halloween. Whether you started planning your outfit months ago or last week or still don’t know what you’ll be, there are common costumes seen every year or trending this year. VALLEY gathered information from Penn State students and asked them, “What does your Halloween costume say about you?”

This costume is easy to set up with makeup and animal print. “You definitely envision yourself as the animal you’re dressed up as and want to stay on trend at the same time,” a student stated.

This costume is not common among Penn State students, but it’s certainly cool and cute. If you wear this, you’re likely nostalgic for the early 2000s and loved your childhood.

American Psycho

“You are a real psycho,” a student said. You’re probably a mysterious person who loves scary movies. It’s an easy costume for guys, as most have suits, a red tie and raincoats.

Victoria’s Secret Angles

We’ll definitely see this costume a lot this year, especially after the fashion show. You want to go for a hot and trendy option. “They definitely want to be seen in their costume by a specific person,” a student jokingly expressed.

It’s a basic male costume — you probably look like and want to be Tom Cruise. “You’re doing this costume to hype yourself up,” a student said.

Couples/Duo Costumes
Menendez Brothers

“I’ve already seen some this year; you’re controversial but trendy.” It’s an easy costume — just khakis and a polo. You probably love murder mysteries and staying on top of crime trends.

This is a cute and classic couple’s costume. It’s not easy to put together—at least for girls, as you’ll have to buy everything on Amazon or at other stores. For guys, it’s simpler; all they need is an apron and a chef hat. “They’re couples who love their childhood and want to stay kids,” a student stated. You certainly love Disney, your partner and life.

Espresso Martini and Dirty Martini

This is a creative and cute costume. If you get the right clothes, they could be worn after Halloween, too. “They’re people who want to have fun and are social,” a student said.

Deer and Hunter

Very classic for rural Pennsylvania. “It’s giving dominant and submissive,” said a State College student, laughing. The girl is probably sweet and super nice and the guy is the “man” in the relationship.

Group Costumes
Kiss, Mary and Kill

Extremely overdone last year; you are the most basic of basics. “They’re most likely a strong trio: the kiss is flirty and seductive, the marry is sweet and charming and the kill is hot and edgy,” a student stated.

This costume is overdone and basic. Let’s be real — you didn’t know what else to be for Halloween.

Princesses

It’s a classic costume with a variety of options, so it’s a smart one. “They probably couldn’t think of anything else to be and want to be a real-life princess, I loved princess movies at heart,” a student said.

Funny Costumes
Onesies

You don’t take yourself seriously and are a chill person to be around. You know you’re funny and don’t care what others think.

You’re the life of the party and went full-out with a funny costume. “You’re playful and just didn’t want to dress up like a slut,” a State College student stated. For this costume, you’ll have to buy everything, probably on Amazon. You’ll likely make a TikTok and just want to have a good time.

Lorax

This costume is all over TikTok, but people love it. You’re a loved person and secure in yourself. Also, very funny.
