Many college students struggle with making their own meals. Whether it be that they don’t like to grocery shop or know how to tell when chicken is fully cooked, there are challenges that prevent students from entering the kitchen.
What if there were a way to eliminate all of the challenges of cooking? Meal delivery services are the answer. Businesses such as HelloFresh and Blue Apron offer so many unique meals that are delivered to your doorstep.
The Benefits
One of the benefits is the variety that you can choose from. There are options such as vegetarian, meat and vegan meals. They also provide step-by-step instructions that give a prep and cook time — important for people with busy schedules and makes it easy to plan out each option.
There is also the ability to have different serving sizes and even the amount of meals can be chosen. Since we are students, getting two meals a week would allow for four meals; each meal has two servings.
There are also so many discount codes available through different influencers and even their own websites.
Meal delivery services also allow you to cut back on the amount of time spent in grocery stores. This has been something that people complain about because State College grocery stores on the weekends (especially Trader Joe’s) have some serious lines. These services also would be a good way for people who aren’t comfortable with going out during the pandemic to get fresh food without feeling like they are compromising their health.
You can also cancel or postpone a month or week at any time which can be beneficial for winter and spring breaks, and once you return you can get right back into the routine.
Some Negatives
Sometimes these meal delivery services can add up in price. It isn’t the cheapest way to get healthy meals, but convenience does come at a price. Two meals a week is around $50, which is around $6 a serving.
The first month for most meal delivery services offers half price, referring to HelloFresh’s website in specific they don’t even charge you for shipping for the first month.
This only takes care of lunch or dinner as well, so you will still have to head out to the grocery store for snacks and other meals throughout the day, but hopefully, it is a good way to shorten the grocery list.
