Recently, nitro-infused beverages have risen in popularity. Options like Nitro Pepsi and Nitro Cold Brew have elevated the beverage industry. Is it possible that nitro drinks are just marketing hype, or do they really add a unique twist on drinks we already love?
The Nitro Phenomenon
It’s no surprise that nitro-infused drinks are fascinating because of their visual appeal. Starbucks, in recent years, offers Nitro Cold Brew that looks as cool as it sounds. Similarly, when you crack open a can of Nitro Pepsi, you hear and see the tiny nitrogen bubbles bouncing around in your drink. It makes you feel luxurious in a way that regular Pepsi never could.
The Science Behind Nitro
Nitro drinks are made with the infusion of nitrogen gas into the beverage. This is unique because nitrogen doesn’t dissolve right away in water, whereas carbon dioxide, which is in regular carbonated drinks, does.
Nitro-infused drinks are made when nitrogen is pressurized in a canister and infused into the liquid under high pressure. For example, when you’re popping the tab on a Nitro Pepsi, that pressure releases the small nitro canister in your drink which infuses your drink with nitro bubbles. These drinks contain smaller bubbles than in regular drinks which creates a creamy and velvety texture.
Enhancing the Flavor
Aside from being visually appealing, nitrogen can also have a significant impact on the taste and texture of a drink. The tiny nitrogen bubbles create a smooth and frothy texture which makes the drink taste creamier. A creamy and velvety texture can be important when considering the impact of flavor on your coffee or soda. If you like creamier and smoother drinks, consider trying a nitro drink and comparing it to a regular one.
Is Nitro Worth the Hype?
The big question still remains: are nitro-infused drinks really worth the hype? Do they actually have a noticeable difference in taste, or are nitro-infused drinks just a marketing ploy?
Well, that’s for you to find out! The answer lies in personal preference. Nitro-infused drinks may offer a special rush of flavor that you can’t necessarily find in the average coffee or soda. Others might like to stick with their plain cup of joe. And that’s okay.
