Throughout the years we noticed those who are attached to brand names. From clothing to backpacks, we can tell who is “brand obsessed” and who just happened to score a deal. At Valley, we like to see who knows what the brand actually sells. So, we went to the HUB to interview some guys to see if they know their stuff.
These lovely gentlemen were told a brand and a designer’s first name to see if they knew what the brand was known for. Here are the results.
Rob and Mike who are chemical engineers were asked first.
Lululemon
“They sell makeup.”
E.L.F.
“Shoes, purses and t-shirts.”
Longchamp
“Makeup and shoes.”
So far they get an A for effort…
Gucci
“Belts and purses.”
Ding ding ding, we have a winner!
Urban Decay
“Hats and t-shirts.”
Hard Candy
Mike:“You don’t eat it, so jewelry.” Rob: “Rock candy.”
MAC
Mike:”Makeup.” Rob: “Apple.”
We will still count that!
Then we asked about the designers…
Vera
Mike: “Makeup.” Rob: “Bradley.”
Rob pulls ahead!
Michael
“Kors.”
Lilly
Rob: “Flowers.”
They certainly knew their brands!
Total: 4 Points.
Next up was an undecided business student, Jeff S.
Lululemon
“Yoga pants, and they even sell some men’s clothing but a lot of people don’t know that.”
So how did Jeff know? Turns out one of his friends had worked there before and filled him in.
E.L.F.
“Christmas attire.”
Even though the correct answer is makeup, that was certainly a good guess!
Longchamp
“Surfware.”
Gucci
“High end fashion, it’s more expensive.”
Point for Jeff.
Urban Decay
“Similar clothing to Urban Outfitters?”
I think the name may have fooled him.
Hard Candy
“I have no idea.”
MAC
“I know that’s makeup!”
Designer time.
Vera
“Bradley.”
Michael
“Kors.”
Lilly
“Lemon?”
Well Jeff really knew most of the answers, and for those he didn’t we still appreciate his attempts!
Total: 5 Points.
Next, Jeremy, a pre-med major, and Cesar, an accounting major, sat in the hot seat.
Lululemon
“Running and athletic gear.”
Give those guys a point!
E.L.F.
Jeremy: “Winter clothes.” Cesar: “Clothes.”
Longchamp
Jeremy: “Sounds like makeup.”
BUZZZ, wrong! Sorry Jeremy, thanks for trying.
Gucci
Jeremy: “Clothes.”
Yes, you are right on this one!
Urban Decay
Jeremy: “Watches.” Cesar: “Accessories.”
Hard Candy
Jeremy: “Well it’s not candy, lipgloss?” Cesar: “Nah definitely isn’t [candy], jewelry.”
It’s makeup, so we will count lipgloss!
MAC
Jeremy: “Computers and phones.” Cesar: “Makeup and perfume.”
Cesar takes the cake on this one.
Designers
Vera
Cesar: “Bradley.”
Michael
Cesar: “Kors.”
Lilly
Jeremy: “Flower.” Cesar: “Pullitz…e..r?”
Cesar definitely knew his designers!
Total: 6 Points (Cesar certainly knew his brands).
Finally we decided to hit a trio of chemical engineers: Chris K, Josh B and Jim S.
Lululemon
Chris: “Purses.” Jim: “Cough drops.”
Perhaps the lemon fooled Jim.
E.L.F.
Chris: “Christmas stuff.” Josh: “That’s a tough one, Christmas clothing?” Jim: “Clothing.”
I think I’ll brand some sweaters after this name!
Gucci
Chris: “Main.” Jim: “Purses.”
Add a point for Jim!
Urban Decay
Chris: “Clothing?” Josh: “Makeup.” Jim: “A decaying city.”
Maybe Jim had a lot on his mind, but Josh still gets a point.
Hard Candy
Chris: “Candy.” Josh: “Clothes.” Jim had a very interesting response: “Strippers, they totally sell strippers.”
No comment on that one.
MAC
Chris: “Trucks.” Josh: “Purses and stuff.” Josh: “I don’t even know…computers, I thought Macbook.”
Let’s see how well this trio knows designers.
Vera
Josh: “Bradley.”
Michael
Chris was the first to answer, “Kors!” And Jim finished with, “Phelps!”
Maybe after all those medals he did create a brand, but we were looking for Kors.
Lilly
Chris: “Dresses.” Josh: “Makeup.” Jim: “Pad.”
Well we can give Chris the point because they do sell dresses!
Total: 5 Points.
As we can see, not every guy knows all the brands…well at least not the brands of the ladies. However, they can offer a great insight and new ideas. Although not everyone may have taken the guessing seriously, that’s okay! Many laughs were had. Next time you are around some friends of the opposite sex, play this guessing game! You can easily find out if they are as good as you think.
