To-do lists. Brain dumps. Bucket lists. An endless list of all the countries you dream of visiting. Impossible-to-remember passwords for random phone apps. Your notes app holds information from countless facets of your life, from your wildest aspirations to the trivial particles of information that simply need somewhere other than your brain to be stored.
Your Notes App is Your Listening Ear
You return home from a night out to an empty room. Your roommate is nowhere to be found, which is *totally* inconsiderate because she should have known you would need to rant about how tired you are of dealing with a certain person in your life. Thus, you turn to an outlet that allows you to release all your emotions in full force.
Where your friend or roommate might bring up the fact that you are being too shortsighted and not giving the person a chance, your notes app will not try to give you advice. It truly is the best listener. And though advice can be just what we need when stuck in a troubling situation, sometimes all you need is to just rant and let your emotions spill out without someone telling you the best way to proceed.
Your Notes App is Your Safe Space
Some things are hard to admit to others. Whether it’s your deepest, darkest secret, or your list of celebrity crushes from middle school that simply must be kept on the down low, some things just need to be kept to ourselves. However, holding things in can take a toll on your mental health. Thus, it is best to self-reflect. Your notes app is your digital journal, a place where you pour out your heart and lighten the burden of the things that hold you down.
In a generation that is so perfectionism-stricken, your notes app is a place for refreshing vulnerability.
Your Notes App is a Place to Dream
We don’t know about you, but VALLEY is convinced that most people have had a Lemonade Mouth moment in their lives when they turn to their notes app and start writing a song. Even if you had never written a good bar in your life, you were convinced that you could whip out something hilarious and catchy or maybe even emotionally evocative. Maybe you took a more Edgar Allen Poe approach and decided to write a poem while you were feeling emo and its fragments are nestled within a notes app entry from 2 years ago.
Maybe you have created notes app entries that are breeding grounds for your hopes and ambitions. You wrote down things you were passionate about to establish a foundation for them. Whenever a neural pathway was flaring, you made a point to jot down the thoughts that resulted, no matter how underdeveloped they were. Maybe it’s a list of hobbies you can’t wait to try over the summer, or a business idea that has sparked your interest.
Continue to write these things down, because having your goals in words is the first step to achieving them!
Your Notes App is a Catalog of Your Life and Development
Your friends and family do not have perfect memories. They might forget the more inconsequential things you’ve said to them or how different you were a few years ago. Your notes app is a pillar of stability in that way: it will never forget how your brain worked and the way you chose to speak about the world. Your dreams and aspirations, your favorite quotes and your random little thoughts. They are all locked into a little square icon on your home screen.
